The Dry Eye & Ocular Surface Society (DEOSS)
Ocular Surface disorders and dry eye disease is a relatively new Ophthalmic subspecialty with a growing interest among Ophthalmologist, eye health providers and industry.
During the past two decades, we have witnessed new classifications and hundreds of publications addressing these disorders along with renowned societies and scientists adopting this growing branch of ophthalmology that is closely related to almost all subspecialties in the field and a significant percentage of drugs and devices dedicated to modern ophthalmology practice.
Needless to say that this growing interest drove a parallel enthusiasm to introduce this subspecialty in to the academic/clinical formation of new Ophthalmologists generations as well as the continuous medical educations and knowledge enhancement among older ones.
These unmet needs formed the vision and mission of our new, yet well established, society. The Dry Eye & Ocular Surface Society (DEOSS) was the fruit of many year of dedicated work to deliver the relatively new science and practice pattern to The Middle East and African Counties in parallel to the mondial efforts delivered by mother societies like TFOS and EuDES.
DEOSS was officially announced in Cairo on January 2024 with a founding board of University professors, Consultants and experts in the field whose vision is to diffuse the knowledge and guidelines in the most proper and efficient academic and clinical methodology.
DEOSS is meant to deliver the message both regionally and internationally, hand in hand with the efforts and collaboration of Leadings international societies.
We look forward to gain members from the six continents and to support continuous medical education programs in the field together with establishing university programs with the academic institutions in the region.
